Downtown Milford, Inc. holds annual meeting

MILFORD – Downtown Milford, Inc. (DMI) held its annual meeting Thursday evening Nov. 2 at the Milford Senior Center. Members, volunteers and guests were treated to an evening that included the election of new board officers, continuing and new board members and the honoring of special individuals for their contribution to DMI during their transition to find a new executive director.

The Board meeting was opened by outgoing Board President, Lisa Fitzgerald, who thanked the Board and volunteers for their dedicated service to DMI. Ms. Fitzgerald said, “While I will be leaving the board after six years of service to spend more time with my family. I will continue to support DMI and the ideals of Main Street.”

New Executive Director Murrie Zlotziver had the honor of announcing the new DMI board. Those elected were: Board President Sara Pletcher, Vice President Peg Reilly, Secretary Pat Sparks and Treasurer Robert Starkey. Current board member elected to a two year term was Walt Hepford. New board members elected were Site Manager Abbotts Mill Matt Babbitt, Executive Director Boys & Girls Club of Milford Todd Van Ekyen and Vice President First State Manufacturing Sher Valenzuela. Continuing board members include David Pickrell, Paige Evers, Mark Dissinger and Lang Redden.

Sara Pletcher, newly elected Board Chair, addressed the group emphasizing the importance of each committee, Organization, Promotion, Economic Vitality, and Design. She stated, “Each committee is an integral part of the success DMI has attained and will continue play an active role as we move forward to strengthen downtown Milford.”

Special thanks were given to Milford City Manager Eric Norenberg, Lorraine Dion who served as Interim DMI Executive Director, State Coordinator Downtown Delaware Diane Laird, and DMI Board Member Pat Sparks. Each received a new Downtown Milford Gift Certificate for their support and assistance in hiring the new executive director. The gift certificate program will encourage residents to shop local Milford. This program will have its official kickoff on Shop Small Saturday, Nov. 25.

A social hour followed the business meeting allowing all members and guests to reminisce about the past year and discuss the new plans for the future.
