The incident occurred around 7:35 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12 as Donald L. Kittle was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck westbound on South Bowers Rd.

For undetermined reasons, the truck exited the north side of the road and struck a residence located at 4384 South Bowers Rd. After striking the house, the truck became engulfed in flames. Kittle then fled the scene but was soon located hiding between some houses nearby.

Kittle, who was uninjured in the crash, was taken into custody and a DUI investigation ensued. He was transported back to Troop 3 in Camden where he was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to provide information at a collision scene, failure to report a collision to police, leaving the scene of a property damage collision and failure to have insurance.

He was also charged with offensive touching of a police officer when he became disorderly at the troop and pushed a trooper that was conducting the investigation. He was arraigned at JP Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $2,000.00 cash bond. No mug shot is available.

South Bowers Beach and Carlisle Fire Companies responded to the scene and extinguished the fire to the truck and house.
