Underneath a hazy fog on Saturday evening, a blaze engulfed an iconic building in the heart of Milford, according to Assistant State Fire Marshall Michael Chionchio.

The incident remains under investigation, but Mr. Chionchio confirmed that The Towers Bed and Breakfast at 101 NW Front Street in Milford has been heavily damaged. He estimated the cost of damages at $50,000 for the 232-year-old building.

“The blaze, reported around 7:30 p.m., occurred in the 100 block of Northwest Front Street. The Carlisle Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames engulfing the three story Bed and Breakfast dwelling,” he said in a press release.

According to Mr. Chionchio, the fire erupted on the exterior of the structure when a vehicle struck propane gas lines feeding the building. The vehicle fled from the scene as flames spread from the fractured gas lines.

No one was inside the building when the fire was discovered and no injuries are reported at this time, although one firefighter was removed from the home and sent with emergency personnel on a stretcher.

Owners of Causey Mansion Bed and Breakfast added, “From what we have heard, no one was hurt. We have the innkeepers with their three dogs tucked in at Causey Mansion.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.
