Milford man arrested after Mills Brothers, Milford Mobil burglaries

MILFORD – A 28-year-old Milford resident is behind bars today after police investigated two burglaries occurring in local businesses.

Officers responded to Mills Brothers Markets July 1 in the 500 block of Southeast 2nd Street following a report of a possible burglary. Upon arrival, officers encountered Zachary J. Mills in the back of the store and took him into custody following a brief struggle.

The Milford Police Department obtained two arrest warrants for Mills stemming from the Mills Brothers incident and a similar burglary June 30 at the Milford Mobil on Causey Avenue.

Mills attempted to escape custody while at the Milford Police Department, but was observed doing so prior to getting out of the handcuff.  Warrants are pending for Mr. Mills for those actions.

Mills has been charged with burglary in the second degree, burglary in the third degree, two counts of possessing burglars tools, two counts of criminal mischief, resisting arrest and three counts of offensive touching of law enforcement.  Mills was presented at Justice of the Peace Court #2 where bail was set at $25,000 secured bond.  Mr. Mills has been committed to the custody of the Sussex Correctional Institution after failing to post bond.
