Milford Rotary Club gears up for Flags for Heroes

MILFORD — Every year, American flags fill Bicentennial Park shortly before Memorial Day in honor of heroes in the community.

The Milford Rotary Club places each one thanks to sponsorships for the American-made flags which come with a plaque identifying the donor and the chosen hero. This year, they will be seen from Mary 24-to June 3.

Flags for Heroes is a national program seeking to raising money for the Rotary Club’s many functions within the community.

Sponsorships start at $50 and can reach $5,000 or more. In the recent past, the Milford Rotary Club has used the proceeds toward dictionaries given to all third graders within the Milford School District, music programs, sponsorships for students to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, camperships to Easter Seals’ Camp Fairlee Manor, scholarships and more.

The Milford Rotary Club raised more than $10,000 last year, according to local Flags for Heroes chairperson Gary Downes.
