– Sugar Bees, Milford’s only candy store, will be closing the hive for good next month, according to Peggy Reilly.

Ms. Reilly made the announcement Saturday afternoon after three years of business in downtown Milford.

“For three years, it has been our pleasure to bring gourmet candies, local honey and smiles to families in lower Delaware. The experiences we have shared have filled our hearts and created wonderful memories,” the announcement stated.

“Both of the Queen Bees are taking a different path: One Queen Bee’s own hive was expanded with the birth of a new little bee and the other Queen Bee will be free to travel, golf and get more involved in the Revitalization of Downtown Milford.”

As active members of downtown revitalization efforts, Ms. Reilly and fellow Queen Bee Sherry Shupe not only offered sweets, but smiles as well.

Several Saturdays per year were devoted to meet-and-greet events with hero’s and princesses inside the walls of Sugar Bees. Ms. Reilly also continues to play an active role with Downtown Milford, Inc. and a newer entrepreneurs group geared to helping downtown businesses with a variety of needs. Ms. Shupe will still be found at Fur Baby Boutique, Daycare and Spa located next to Arena’s.

“We are grateful to live and work in a Community that is active in supporting local business. We thank you all for allowing us to experience success and fun over the past three years,” the statement read.

“Our doors will officially close on Saturday, Feb. 26, but we look forward to continuing our efforts in helping downtown Milford grow. We look forward to seeing downtown Milford continue to bloom and we are excited to see current businesses expand and new businesses arrive. Thank you for your support and dedication to our little hive!”

Anyone interested in taking over the business should contact Sugar Bees directly, according to their Facebook page. Sugar Bee can be reached at 302-491-4049.
