Smyrna woman charged for internal theft

MILFORD – A 35-year-old Smyrna woman was arrested by the Milford Police Criminal Division May 24 in connection with internal thefts occurring while the woman was an employee of a local apartment complex management office.

Tashana E. Smith was charged with felony theft $1,500 or greater, four counts of forgery in the second degree and falsifying business records.

An investigation revealed that Smith, while employed by the Management Office of the Cascades Development, advised tenants to provide her with blank money orders for rent and then told them that she would fill the money orders out for them.

Smith would allegedly take the money orders, make them out to herself, cash them and keep the money.

Smith had also advised new tenants to provide her with cash only for the first month’s rent, security deposit, etc. Smith would keep the cash from the tenants that were due to move in.

She obtained more than $8,800 from May of 2015 to December of 2015. Smith was arraigned and released on $11,000.00 unsecured bond.
