Police investigate shooting in Lincoln

(Updated) LINCOLN, Del. –¬†Delaware State Police Sussex County Major Crimes Unit detectives continue to investigate the shooting of a 24 year old male that occurred during a home invasion style robbery last night southeast of Lincoln.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:02 p.m. last night as four male suspects, one of whom was armed with an unknown make and model gun, responded to a residence located in the 21000 block of W. Mayhew Drive in Cedar Creek Estates in Lincoln.

As the four males entered the home through the unlocked front door of the home, two of them proceeded to the main floor and confronted five family members, holding them at gun point. Two of the other suspects then proceeded to the basement area of the home where they confronted a 41-year-old female victim. They attempted to obtain cellular phones from the victim, but were unsuccessful.

The two suspects went to a bedroom in the home and came into contact with a 24-year-old male from whom they successfully obtained a cellular phone and a laptop computer.

The suspects were then confronted by several dogs inside of the home and as they attempted to fight the dogs off, the armed suspect was pushed down the stairs by one of the occupants of the home. He then fired two rounds from his gun, one of which struck the 24 year old male in a lower extremity. The second round passed through an interior wall of the home but did not strike anyone. All four suspects then fled from the home in an unknown direction.

The 24-year-old male victim was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Milford Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. There were no other injuries.

The suspects could only be described as black males. They were last seen wearing hooded sweatshirts and had bandannas covering their faces. There is no further physical or clothing description available at this time.

The investigation into this incident by Delaware State Police Major Crimes Unit detectives continues.
