Homeless man charged with burglaries to Milford businesses

MILFORD – A 21-year-old homeless man was arrested and charged in Milford in connection with burglaries at the Goodwill store and Mama Maria’s restaurant.

Steven Moran was charged with possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, two counts of burglary in the third degree, possession of burglary tools, criminal mischief over $1,000 but under $5,000 and criminal mischief under $1,000.

Officers from the Milford Police Department were checking local businesses at 11:19 p.m. after receiving burglar alarm activation calls on the night of Friday, Jan. 22.

Upon checking the Goodwill store, officers could here banging from inside the store.

The Milford police K-9 officer and his K-9 were checking the front exterior of the business when the K-9 officer observed Moran inside the store. Moran then fled on foot out of the rear of the store.

The K-9 tracked Moran to the area of the foot bridge located on Truitt Ave. Moran was taken into custody.

It was later discovered that Moran broke into Mama Maria’s restaurant in addition to the Goodwill store. Moran was also in possession of shotgun ammunition and a hatchet at the time of his arrest.

Moran was arraigned and committed to SCI in default of $20,000.00 secured bond.
