Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race motors on

DELMAR – Even rain couldn’t wash away the excitement. Only delay it.

The 43rd Annual Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race, originally scheduled for a day earlier but postponed due to severe heat and thunderstorms at Delaware International Speedway, took place last Wednesday in Delmar.

Camp Barnes, located near Frankford, is a free weeklong experience for underprivileged kids hosted by the Delaware State Police. The annual stock car race is its largest fundraiser.

Gates opened at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and the crowd began filtering in, coolers, grills and spirit in tow.

Entertainment included skydivers, a canine demonstration, dunking booths, monster truck car crushing and, of course, racing.

In total, 132 cars raced around the half-mile oval just north of Delaware’s southern border.

Following are the posted results from the event, courtesy of Delaware International Speedway spokesman Charlie Brown.
