Wednesday the Buccaneers will play a rubber match with Delmar, 7 p.m., at Cape Henlopen High to determine the Southern Division crown. The winner there will play North champion Cape Henlopen Friday for an overall conference championship.

The tiebreaker game became a necessity when the Wildcats came to Milford and handed the Buccaneers their first loss of the season, 8-7, last Wednesday.

Junior Mark Henderson, who scored the game-winning overtime golden goal when Milford bested Delmar earlier in the season, tied Wednesday’s rematch with a goal one minute before the final horn.

The Wildcats, however, won the ensuing faceoff and with 31 seconds remaining got the winning score from Drew Blewitt. Blewitt’s goal came with the junior 15 yards out, left of the cage and falling to his right.

Senior Matt Viramontes had three goals for the Bucs in the loss. Henderson netted a pair for Milford, which also got scores from seniors Zach Heesh and Ring Lardner.

Milford, which is scheduled to be at Dickinson Monday and host St. Georges on Tuesday, rebounded from the loss to the Wildcats with a 17-3 victory over nonconference St. Elizabeth last Thursday.

First round state tournament play is slated for May 19.
