The Buccaneers (12-5 overall, 10-0 South) clinched the division crown – and its automatic state tournament berth – with Tuesday night’s 66-24 win over Indian River. Milford also earned a spot in the Henlopen Conference championship game against whichever team wins the Northern Division.

Woodbridge (11-3, 6-2), if it wins its remaining Southern Division games, could still tie Milford atop the standings if the Bucs lose their final two conference games (Feb. 16 vs. Laurel and Feb. 19 at Seaford). The Buccaneers, however, would still win the division with the head-to-head tiebreaker after sweeping the Blue Raiders this season.

Against the Indians, junior Eugene Riley made his playing time count, tallying 18 points and finishing as the game’s leading scorer. Fellow junior Henry Nesmith finished with 16 for Milford, which led 40-12 at halftime.

Milford is scheduled to play again Thursday, 6:15 p.m., at home versus nonconference Caesar Rodney.

No date has been announced yet for the Henlopen Conference championship game.

Regular season play for all teams must be concluded by Feb. 24. State tournament play begins March 3 with teams seeded 9-24 in action. Milford, however, could earn a top eight seed and first round bye if it finishes the season strong.
